For most ski resorts in Japan, the season starts around mid-to-late December and goes through until late March-early April.
Arguably the peak of the Japan Ski Season in terms of snow quality, is from mid-January until late-February – and this is the period to aim for to ensure good skiing in Japan.
There are a few periods in the Japan Ski season that are particular busy – the New Year holiday; the 3 day weekend in mid-January, and, the 3 day weekend in mid February and Chinese New Year.
While the weekends and national holidays at Japan’s popular ski resorts can get busy- and probably best avoided if possible- on weekdays- travellers will often find plenty of available – even at the most popular resorts. At the less well-known resorts – even less!
