Experience spiritual healing at Natadera Temple’s mountaintop retreat
On the top of Mt. Engyo, one of the 3 holy mountains of Japan, you will find Ikumo, a scenic inn surrounded by bountiful nature as far as the eye can see. Ikumo is located by Natadera Temple on a scenic mountain peak that offers panoramic views of the entire surrounding area, including Mt. Hakusan, the Sea of Japan, Kanazawa, and even as far as the Noto Peninsula. After waking up to the sounds of birdsong, you can watch the sun rise over Mt. Hakusan in the morning, and in the evening watch as the sun sets over the Sea of Japan.
The “Shinto holy fire and ancient Shinto fire festivals” or Himatsuri are performed in the main shrine which is located in the centre of our building. The Ikumo fire festival is an ancient Japanese prayer service that contains Buddhism, Taoism and Shinto. Ikumo is now the only the place where you can attend this kind of service in Japan. Try your hand at hand-copying Buddhist sutras and meditate over the grand display of nature just outside the wide panoramic windows. The serene calming and healing atmosphere is the perfect setting to rest your body and mind.
Ikumo is very eco-friendly and has both Japanese and western style guest rooms so that you can feel at home and relax. From the soothing open-air bath, you can view beautiful sunsets and the starlit sky of the Japan Sea. Ikumo guests are comforted with the utmost care and attention.
Japan Holidays will tailor a package for you including meals and private transfers to make your retreat a memorable and relaxing experience.
