For 3 consecutive days, pass holders can enjoy unlimited travel on all JR East trains in the areas of Tokyo, Tohoku, Nagano, and Niigata, inclusive of the Shinkansen. For example, visitors can start a journey in Tokyo, explore the city, then maybe hop aboard the Shinkansen to the Tohoku area or the Nagano, Niigata area.
