Hiking Tours

Filled with stunning scenery, Japan is a hiker’s paradise, offering everything from quick city escapes in the countryside to multi-week treks that snake past dramatic seaside cliffs and alpine forests.

Launching in October 2025, Japan Holidays is proud to partner with Japan-based Michinori Travel to launch an expanding range of fully-guided and self-guided Japan hiking adventures – starting with the famous Nakasendo Trail Walk , the challenging Kumano Kodo Trail – and the exciting new Michinoku Coastal Trail.

Nakasendo Trail

The Nakasendo Way – or Central Mountain Route – was one of five major routes established by the Shogunate (Military Dictator) during the Edo period (1603–1868).

The route is 533km long and has 69 post towns, which were set up to feed and accommodate the feudal lords, Samurai and merchant travellers.

Kumano Kodo

The Kumano Kodo is the name of a hiking route made up of seven trails that snake through the Kii Mountain Range in Japan’s Wakayama prefecture.

The Route is one of only two pilgrimages in the world registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Michinoku Trail

The Michinoku Coastal Trail (MCT) is Japan’s newest – and longest- hiking trail, through one of the country’s more remote and rugged regions.

The 1025km trail follows the northeastern coastline of Honshu, connecting the city of Hachinohe in the north with Soma, in the south.
