Overview
This 11 day, 10-night tour combines unforgettable cycling with plenty of time to experience the villages, towns, and cities along the way.
The journey begins in Onomichi, the gateway to the world-famous Shimanami Kaido. After cycling across the spectacular island-hopping route and spending the night on one of the islands, we leave Honshu behind.
We complete the remainder of the Shimanami Kaido before entering Shikoku and continuing to the historic city of Matsuyama, known for its deep cultural significance and traditional charm. That evening, we stay near Dogo Onsen, home to one of Japan’s oldest hot springs and close to one of the country’s oldest castles. Along the way, there will be opportunities to explore local sights, relax in hot springs, visit sake breweries, and immerse yourself in the rich culture of the region.
Shikoku is a dream destination for cyclists, with winding roads that weave through breathtaking countryside, dramatic valleys, pristine coastlines, and crystal-clear rivers. Renowned as a historic pilgrimage destination, the island is also rich in ancient temples and shrines, alongside beautifully preserved traditional villages.
Widely regarded as one of Japan’s most captivating cycling regions, Shikoku offers a unique sense of authenticity thanks to its relative isolation from the mainland. This remoteness has helped preserve the island’s traditions and culture, giving visitors a more genuine glimpse of Japan. Less frequented by tourists than the country’s famous heritage cities, Shikoku rewards those willing to venture off the beaten path with a quieter, more immersive experience.
