Sennematsu is located on Oshima Island near Imabari –  the start or end point for the Shimanami Kaido.

About the Shimanami Kaido

Shimanami-Kaido (Shimanami Sea Route) is a collective name of the 60 km (37 mile) motor highway over the Seto Inland Sea which connects Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, and Onomichi City , Hiroshima Prefecture, and six islands in between. The completion of the route has made Ehime more easily accessible from major cities in Honshu. “Shimanami-Kaido” often refers the whole area along the road.

Cycling the Shimanami Kaido

Cycling is the highlight attraction of the area and has emerged as Japan’s most picturesque cycling course. Each bridge has the path for pedestrians & cyclists in addition to vehicular traffic . Fourteen rent-a-bike stations are available along the 70klm route – allowing for multiple stopping points to enjoy the scenery on each island and village area.
