Shiga Kogen is a collection of 21 ski resorts strung out along the Shiga Plateau- making it one of Japan’s largest ski areas. This area enjoys a long season as it covers the period from the middle of November to the end of May. Families are well catered for with family rooms, ski school and local attractions.
Not far from Shiga Kogen, on the western edges of the national park is the Jigokudani Wild Monkey Park. More than 200 wild long tailed monkeys live here and bathe in the natural hot spring water – a sight not to be missed. Nagano City’s Zenkoji temple and Matsushiro Kaizu castle for an interesting day trip away from skiing.
The Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel has convenient ski in/ski out access and is spread out over a three different buildings, all connected by regular shuttle bus at the foot of Shiga Kogen Yakebitaiyama Ski Area.
